Loosening the College Board's grip on higher ed
The College Board has amassed tremendous—and, arguably, unwarranted—power over the futures of college-bound students. The LOOPcast, which covers news and current events, covered this in a brief, sixteen-minute piece.
Thankfully, groups like the Classic Learning Test have launched alternatives to the College Board’s SAT and to the ACT. The CLT offers a test by the same name that “rewards deep thinking and discourages guessing or memorization without understanding why the answer is right,” according to The College Fix. More than 300 colleges and universities now accept the CLT. Last fall, the CLT announced another alternative, this time to AP courses. The CLT will launch Enduring Courses later this year, starting with the humanities.
Such alternatives teach young people how to think critically and keep the flame of The Great Conversation burning brightly.
